Know what is covered
Define the environment, applications and responsibilities included in the scope. Keep the boundary between hosting, operating system, application and third-party services explicit.
Make routine work visible
Document maintenance tasks, patch decisions, backup checks and capacity reviews. Agree how changes are approved and how the results are recorded.
Make alerts actionable
An alert needs an owner, useful context and a next step. Separate urgent service failures from items that belong in a scheduled review. Avoid treating the number of alerts as proof of coverage.
Plan the handover
Keep access records, environment notes, recovery instructions and contact routes current. A useful handover lets another authorised person understand the service without relying on memory.
Agree the service levels
Availability, support hours, response targets and exclusions depend on the actual agreement. They should be clear before work begins, including what happens outside the agreed coverage.
